History

Parwanoo was a lesser known mountain hamlet. Before the country attained independence from the British Raj, the colonials had occupied most of the areas of Himachal. Parwanoo remained unnoticed, therefore untouched by colonial acquisition.

After, Himachal Pradesh was formed as a state, Parwanoo became a major industrial town. A number of small and large scale industries opened in the town. Tourist facilities were not missed as spa facilities, yoga retreats and vacation homes cropped up. Apart from the scenic beauty, Parwanoo is known for its fruit orchards and the industries producing Jams, Jellies, preserves, pickles and even the meat based pickles.

By Rail

Kalka is the nearest railhead situated 5 km away from Parwanoo. Major cities like Amritsar, Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai are connected to Kalka by rail.

By Road

Parwanoo is well connected to Delhi and Chandigarh by road. Regular bus services connect both the cities with Parwanoo. Chandigarh is less than an hour’s drive away from Parwanoo while Delhi can be reached in four and a half hours. State owned buses, luxury Volvo, cabs and private vehicles ply on the route.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Parwanoo is during mid-May to mid Oct. Summers season is from March to May, and the weather is pleasant with maximum temperature of 30 ° C. From June to September, it is the monsoon season. The heavy rains make traveling difficult as there are road mishaps but the lush beauty is magical. Winter begins from December to February and temperature drops down to 8 ° C. Post monsoons and pre winters, during October and November is the ideal time to plan your visit.
